Remember me
The recent demise of Sir Roy Yorke Calne has made transplantation surgery an orphan as Calne’s contribution to the art and science of transplantation is priceless. He performed the first liver transplant in Europe and introduced cyclosporin to the transplantation to prevent rejection. A gifted painter and sculptor along with a keen interest in tennis, Calne was a surgeon whom every trainee surgeon would love to emulate as a role model. He was the Founding father of the European Liver Transplant Association.
