Major publications in the critical care pharmacotherapy literature: 2024

The volume of medical publications has increased significantly over the past decade, stemming from a surge in research submissions, expedited publication timelines, a “publish-or-perish” culture, and the rise of open-access publication platforms. [[1], [2], [3], [4], [5]] In navigating this influx of literature, clinicians increasingly turn to Free Open Access Medical Education (FOAM) such as podcasts, social media postings, and blogs for quick access to information. [6] However, FOAM is limited by variable content quality, brevity, conflicts of interest, and unreviewed/uncensored ideas. [7] High-quality literature analysis and synthesis performed by experienced clinicians is critical for bridging this gap between information and practice. [[8], [9], [10], [11], [12], [13], [14], [15], [16], [17], [18], [19]] To address the need for high-quality literature synthesis, this review is intended to summarize, analyze, and provide insights on the most impactful publications related to critical care pharmacotherapy in 2024.
