An industrial take on developing and deploying carbon capture at scale

To write this article, Jennifer Rudd asked managers and vice-presidents working in carbon capture and carbon dioxide removal to share their insights on how to develop and deploy the technologies at scale.

To try to answer that question I interviewed four people in high-level positions at CCS and DAC companies and one person working in a company mobilizing private sector investment for low-carbon technologies. To raise the voices of those in the sector less commonly heard I only interviewed people identifying as women. This follows my previous Books & Arts article reviewing Scrubbing the Sky, written by Paul McKendrick, which focused on the perspectives of men working in these industries. The majority of interviewees hold PhDs in relevant fields, such as materials chemistry and chemical physics. Two interviewees have been in their companies from the beginning, having joined them as start-ups. Others have taken a more circuitous route, working first in climate protection, corporate development, sustainability and the waste sector. Quotes from the interviewees, in speech marks throughout the article, have been anonymized.
