The multidimensional roles of intermediate filaments - bridging genetic diversity with form, functions, and targets

John E. Eriksson, PhD, is Director General of Euro-BioImaging ERIC (www.eurobioimaging.eu), the pan-European organization of advanced biological and biomedical imaging, with Headquarters in Turku, Finland and Professor of Cell Biology at Åbo Akademi University.

His research team working has revealed key roles of cytoskeletal intermediate filaments in cellular signaling during cellular responses critical for both normal homeostasis and tissue recovery. Innovations from the team have resulted in successful tech transfer and a startup company for targeted drug development. As Director of Euro-BioImaging, his prime professional focus is to advance cutting-edge imaging infrastructures and their impact across Europe and elsewhere.
